MATHEMATICS

Practical mathematics and use of maths equipment is to the forefront of teaching and learning of this subject in our school.  New resources are purchased on an annual basis to instil a love and understanding of this area of the curriculum.  In 2021/22 we introduced a new online maths programme called Freckles, which is individualised to the needs of each child.  The same maths scheme is used throughout the school and emphasis is placed on mental maths and problem-solving.   We also use the online IXL programme for pupils experiencing difficulty in the area of mathematics.  Mata sa Rang is taught as a practical maths programme using a team-teaching approach where pupils learn by using various maths resources.  Problem-solving is thoroughly taught using the Brainsnack Programme and emphasis is placed on mental maths as part of our School Self-Evaluation Programme.  Maths Tracker, Busy at Maths Assessments and the Primary Drumcondra Maths Tests are used throughout the year to determine pupils progress and establish areas where support is needed.
